Clinton Global Initiative University
Each year, CGI U hosts a meeting where students, national youth organizations, topic experts, and celebrities discuss solutions to pressing global issues. CGI U 2011 was held at the University of California at San Diego from April 1-3, 2011. At this meeting, nearly 1,200 attendees came together to make a difference in CGI U's five Focus Areas: Education, Environment & Climate Change, Peace & Human Rights, Poverty Alleviation, and Public Health. Education for a Sustainable Living had the opportunity to send four members (Mia Renauld, Anna Medina, Elissa Pemberton, and Krysten Walls) to spread the knowledge of what our amazing organization does and how students can implement ESLP at their campus.
But CGI U is more than just an event. It is a growing community of young leaders who don't just discuss the world's challenges - they take real, concrete steps toward solving them. Throughout the year, and as a prerequisite of attending the CGI U meeting, students and youth organization directors develop their own Commitments to Action: a specific plan of action that addresses a pressing challenge on their campus, in their community, or in a different part of the world.

Strengthening the Roots 2011
The fourth annual Strengthening the Roots Convergence was bigger than ever. Thanks to the help of partner organizations throughout the region, this year's STR will bring together 450+ high school- and college-age youth to unite around food justice organizing and activism.
The convergence will feature peer-facilitated workshops, two panel discussions with experienced community activists, dynamic group activities, a concert and dance party with the Santa Cruz-based band Wooster, and, of course, the customary delicious food. Whether you've been organizing for years or are completely new to the world of food systems activism, it's a great place to share skills and knowledge, network with other youth activists from around the state, and celebrate the good work we are doing!
